Menopause yoga classes are exclusively for women. Joining together in a small group, we will explore different themes from week to week to consider the myriad of ways that menopause can affect a woman. Whilst menopause is often viewed as a taboo subject, these classes will give women an opportunity to discuss their experiences in a nurturing and supportive environment. 


We will use a variety of yogic techniques including hatha, yin and restorative to equip ourselves with skills to help ride the rollercoaster that can be menopause. Breathing techniques are hugely important in menopause yoga, and we cover a variety in class to help women deal with different symptoms.  Every class finishes with a lovely, soothing relaxation to ease the body, mind and emotions.


Women of any age are welcome to join the class if they feel they have menopausal symptoms, so feel free to come along whether you're 20 or 100. All that's needed is a willingness to participate in whichever way suits you.  The classes are suitable for beginners, and any woman with an interest in optimising her health and wellbeing in the post-menopausal years.


We will cover a variety of topics from week to week, including the many menopause symptoms and consider ways that yoga might help ease these symptoms.  We will also consider how yoga can help protect and enhance our health during the aging process.


We will also consider other aspects of menopause, including lifestyle, nutrition and medication.


Please bring your yoga mat, block, belt, 2 cushions and 2 pillows.


In October 2019 Kate attended the Sacred Feminine yoga retreat at the Yoga Mandala Ashram with Reva.  It was clear during the weekend how much of a need and desire there is for women to share their experiences, and learn from one another.  A group of women spending time together can be an incredibly empowering and nurturing experience.

Kate aims to provide these opportunities to the women of north west England, but also further afield through Zoom.

 

In September 2020 Kate completed her Menopause Yoga teacher training with Petra Coveney, which covered the ways in which yoga can help women in this stage of life, moving from peri-menopause, menopause and post-menopause.  Kate has also joined classes with Uma Dinsmore Tuli during lockdown for additional teaching inspiration.  


In January 2021 Kate joined the Birthlight Yoga for Menopause short course with Francoise Freedman and Belinda Stapledon.  This course was quite different from the MY course, and the two courses complement one another very well.


In April 2022, Kate is attending the Well Woman Yoga Teacher Training course with Francoise Freedman from Birthlight - this was supposed to be in October 2020, but has been postponed. 


Kate is really enjoying running these specialist classes to support women, covering topics such as bone strength, heart health, hormone balance, nutrition, hot flushes, insomnia and pelvic floor health amongst others.

Who? For any woman interested in finding out more about menopause and the ways in which yoga can support her during this transitional time.


What is yoga for menopause? Yoga for menopause is specifically for women experiencing any stage of menopause, including peri and post menopause. Classes include a women’s circle to share ideas, experiences and support; yoga poses to help women cope with symptoms; breathwork to boost energy; breathwork to calm the mind, and deep relaxation


With? Kate Knowles, well qualified and experienced yoga teacher. Kate has been teaching since 2004, having trained with the British Wheel of Yoga. Kate trained in Menopause Yoga with Petra Coveney, and Yoga for a smoother menopause with Birthlight.


Investment? £100 for the eight week course. Includes handouts, practice sequences, pilates ball, video recordings if you miss a class and audio relaxations.

Yoga for Menopause Pilot CPD event

This event is for yoga teachers only. 

Yoga is a wonderful way to support women through the transition of menopause.  Asana, pranayama, meditation and relaxation can be incredibly helpful in helping women deal with the physical, mental and emotional effects that hormonal changes can bring.  The link below will take you to the British Wheel of Yoga website where you can find out more.
